Astra Porta Get the shortcut

How the answer is built

Astra Porta answers one question before you board: will this plane have Starlink Wi-Fi? It works from the tail number your flight tracker shows, or a flight number. It is a first iteration, built for people who use Flighty.

Three layers of evidence, strongest first

  1. This exact aircraft. Two open trackers check individual United and Alaska aircraft against the airlines' own flight pages: unitedstarlinktracker.com and alaskastarlinktracker.com (open source, by Martin Amps). Astra Porta carries 2,081 of their aircraft records, refreshed twice a day, with each plane's Wi-Fi system: Starlink, Viasat, Panasonic, Thales or none.
  2. Aircraft named in the press. A short list of individual planes reported flying with Starlink at airlines without a tracker, for example British Airways' first 787-8s.
  3. The airline and the aircraft type. For 91 airlines, what has been announced and installed by aircraft type, with a date and a source for each. Used when nobody has looked at the specific aircraft.

Aircraft identity (type, operator) comes from adsbdb.com, with hexdb.io as the backup. Airline names come from the OpenFlights database (Open Database License). Live positions, when a flight is in the air, from adsb.lol (Open Database License).

What the verdicts mean

  1. Yes. A tracker has verified Starlink on this exact aircraft.
  2. Likely. Every aircraft of this type at this airline has it, or this plane was reported in the press, but nobody has checked this one individually.
  3. Maybe. The airline is partway through this aircraft type.
  4. Not yet. Only a few of this type have it so far.
  5. No. This aircraft has another Wi-Fi system, this type is not in the programme, or the airline chose another provider or has no Starlink plans.
  6. Unknown. Nothing to go on: check the tail number against your tracker.

Aircraft can be swapped right up to departure. Every answer is about the plane currently assigned, not about how well the connection will work on board.

Using it from Flighty

Add the shortcut from the Get page and switch on Show in Share Sheet. Then in Flighty, press and hold the Share button (a quick tap opens Flighty's own share screen instead), scroll down and tap Astra Porta. The first time, tap Always Allow. Your phone reads the flight itself and sends only the flight number, date and plane here. No plane assigned yet? The answer says which day to check back, usually the day before departure.

Without Flighty, type the tail number on the main page. Most flight trackers and airline apps show it once a plane is assigned.

Privacy

Nothing you type or share is stored or logged. The shortcut never reads your clipboard and never sends the Flighty link itself. This page checks aircraft with the public lookups named above and nowhere else. It is not affiliated with Flighty, SpaceX or any airline. Starlink is a trademark of Space Exploration Technologies Corp.
